Horace Parlan anchored masterpieces with Charles Mingus—including the seminal album, Mingus Ah Um—and was one of the most sought-after pianists on the Blue Note label and a leading band leader of the hard-bop era. Parlan's daughter has organized the Horace Parlan Legacy Project to honor her father's music and share his remarkable story.
The project kicks off on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at the Hot Club of New York in New York City (20 West 20th Street), featuring a stellar quartet under the musical direction of maestro T.K. Blue on Sax and flute, Kevin Congleton on Drums, William Hill III on Piano and Paul Beaudry on Bass, and special guest jazz vocalist, Simona Daniele.
Every Monday night is a listening event at the Hot Club. Things start with a thematic set of records, presented by Matthew “Fat Cat” Rivera or another Hot Club programmer, followed by a show-and-tell set of records from attendees.
